number three!

I decided to research Squanto tonight, he was a very interesting person. In many ways I find him similar to Pocahantas. It is said that he is the reason why we have Thanksgiving. Now a little bit about him...Squanto was born into the Patuxet tribe of Native Americans in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, around 1585. Captain George Weymouth captures him and took him into Britian in 1605. When Squanto was in Britian he worked for Georges, after a while he was able to move back home. When he got back to America he was captures with some other Natives and we were took to Spain to be slaves. He was then rescued and moved back to Britian. Gorges asked him to go back to Cape Cod and help him start trading with Natives. Then the Pilgrims showed up at Plymouth and the Pilgrims and the Natives were unsure of eachother but then they made a treaty. Squanto ended up staying with the Pilgrims and helping them whenever they needed. If it wasn't for Squanto the colony Plymouth may not have survived. When Squanto died the Pilgrims were very upset because they considered him a friend and a member of their colony.

  2. Good comparison between Squanto and Pocahontas. They are both Native American who played a major role in saving an English colony. Thanks to their wisdom and generosity the English colonies survived and soon thrived and grew into the United States of America that we live in today!
